The Gog Magog War is considered by many as a major event leading up to the end times. It is a war where an array of nations attack Israel and the Lord comes to her rescue. The following are the main nations most observers believe are involved in that attack Israel based on Scripture. Also based on Scripture is the unique military/political condition of Israel at the time the war takes place. Each of these characteristics create a check list that can be compared to current conditions.
1. What Nations Attack
Russia, Turkey and Iran are the main players in this attack based on the following scripture:
1Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords. 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; 6 Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.
Ezekiel 38:1-6
Rosh: North of Israel including Russia
Persia: The modern nation of Iran
Togarmah: Asia minor including Turkey
Israel’s Current Relationships with Russia, Turkey and Iran:
Turkey: CHECK—-Current Relations are Very Bad-Due to Israel’s war in Gaza and southern Lebanon, Turkey has been issuing dire threats against the Jewish state if it does not cease the war.
Iran: CHECK—-Current relations are EXTREMELY BAD with Iran threatening to end the existence of Israel. Israel and Iran are mortal enemies.
Russia: NOT CHECKED—- Not good but fair relations. The relationship between Israel and Russia is complicated. Israel being a major U.S. ally finds Russia frequently opposing it’s Middle East policies. But as a result of so many within Israel having immigrated from the former Soviet Union, there is a strong bond between many in Israel and many in Russia. Both Israel and Russia have well established military communications between their top staff and Israel will frequently show Russia respect before engaging in certain actions in the region. Not always but often enough to serve a workable relationship. Neither appears to want to needlessly antagonize the other with Israel being one of the few U.S. allies who has refused to send arms to Ukraine.
2. Israel’s Peaceful/Unarmed Condition
Thus says the Lord God: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan: You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled village; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’ to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.
Ezekiel 38:10-12
*Israel has no fences or walls
*Israel is at peace with her neighbors
*Israel is implied to have no military
At the time of the Gog Magog War Israel is in the unique position of being at peace with her neighbors. And apparently this condition lasts long enough that they deconstruct tearing down the defensive fences and walls around the nation. As a result of these conditions it is implied that she no longer has a military as there is no need for one.
Israel’s Current Condition:
- At Peace With Her Neighbors: NOT CHECKED– Israel is currently surrounded by nations that want to wipe her off the map. In Southern Israel there is the terrorist army of Hamas. Of which a war with that organization is currently winding down. In Northern Israel on the border with Lebanon Israel and the Iranian backed Hezbollah are currently locked in exchanges of rocket fire. Across the Golan Heights there is the nation of Syria of which Israel is currently in a hostile relationship with.
- No Fences or Walls Surrounding the Nation: NOT CHECKED– Israel is currently surrounded by 398.8 miles of fences and walls due to hostile nations and terrorist groups on her border. It was the breach of its fence along the border with Gaza that led to the death of their citizens on a large scale. All of the previously mentioned factors make it VERY unlikely they will dismantle any protective walls or fences any time soon.
- No/Insignificant Military: NOT CHECKED– The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) is currently ranked the eighteenth strongest military on earth.
