The prophecy of a strange war just before the end times launch.
RESOURCES: The End of the Age as well as The Train of Signs Before the End Times Launch
There is a day coming when something very strange will appear in the heavens above the earth. Perhaps the scene will invoke the use of a comet or a stray asteroid in a fantastic and frightening orbit. Or possibly it will be an inexplicable atmospheric condition producing an unusual light display in the sky. Perhaps it will only be seen at night. Perhaps not. Science will try to explain it, but it will likely fail. We can only speculate as to what form it will take. Will strange lights flicker above? Or will it be akin to the northern lights, but more widespread? About it, we only know what the prophet Joel tells us. And he is vague. But speculate we must, as this is part of the cosmic warning signs that will appear just before the dreaded end times begin. In his own words…
And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. Joel 2:30
Joel 2:30
Joel leaves us to speculate as to what those wonders in the heavens will be. In fact, the Hebrew word used for “wonders” is the masculine noun “mopet,” a word typically used for that of a “miracle.” For example, “mopet” was used in the Book of Exodus to depict the plagues sent against Pharaoh. And certainly, from the perspective of the Egyptians and the Israelites, those plagues were miracles. So whatever these wonders in the heavens are, they will be viewed by men on earth as some kind of miracle occurring in the heavens above. Something extraordinary and highly unusual. For now, we can only imagine what they will be. But there is one thing Joel does not leave to the imagination. Something on earth will accompany these heavenly miracles. War. And a notable one at that. How do we know it will be notable? Not only because it ranks to be placed in prophecy scripture, but because this particular war will possess a terrifying uniqueness.
There are certain ancient Biblical prophecies that, in the modern age, take on new meaning due to the evolution of language and knowledge. And in this case, Joel’s words appear to be one such example. Across the ages, the words in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke would have easily been understood to signify warfare. That is true. But ancient man could not fully appreciate the details of Joel’s description. That knowledge was reserved for modern man. Considering that both fire and pillars of smoke are the descriptions given for this war, modern knowledge points us in a certain direction.
There are several notable characteristics associated with the detonation of a nuclear weapon. And today, every adult person instantly recognizes them. Upon igniting, there is a fireball. It has been called a fireball since the inception of the grim bomb. The fireball consists of massive waves of swirling firestorms and writhing flames, the like of which are incomparable on earth. This notable characteristic shares top billing with another trait. The mushroom cloud. But there is another way of saying it. Pillars of smoke. Eventually, the fireball transforms into a cloud of smoke that forms a mushroom-shaped pillar, marking the final remains of the detonation. And also marking the final remains of countless souls who were instantly vaporized.
What is interesting about these pillars of smoke is the specific Hebrew word used in describing them. It is “timara.” Whereas we typically think of pillars of smoke as being straight, upright ones, such as those supporting a building. The word “timara” depicts pillars of smoke comparable to those of a palm tree. A wide top sitting above a narrow stem. The exact definition of “timara,” according to Strong’s Concordance, is that of a palm-like spreading at the top. Consider the pictures comparing a typical palm tree to the mushroom cloud of a nuclear blast. The common shape is undeniable.
Whether or not Joel is referring to nuclear or conventional bombs, only time will tell. But based on the unique characteristics of nuclear detonations, including fire (fireball) and pillars of smoke with a palm-like spreading at the top, nuclear detonations would appear to be a very strong candidate to fulfill his words. As for the second heavenly warning sign, it is very direct as well.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood,
Joel 2:31
Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.
Straight forward, we are told the sun will darken and the moon shall be turned to blood. The moon will not literally turn into blood. It will turn red in color. Since this is a major sign that the day of the Lord is about to begin, this heavenly sign also must be notable. Exactly what form this sign in the sun and moon will take, we are not told. It possibly will be some kind of notable solar eclipse and blood moon. However, when this heavenly warning takes place, in conjunction with the wonders in the heavens and its notable war, a clear and positive identification can be made. The end times are about to begin.
Some say the sun darkening and the moon turning to blood are the wonders spoken of in the previous verse. Although possible, it would appear unlikely for a couple of reasons. Spread out across scripture are a multitude of references to the sun and moon associated with the day of the Lord, and never are they described as wonders in the heavens. Additionally, the heavenly events of the sun darkening and a blood moon are not uncommon. And they are certainly not considered miracles in line with the Hebrew word “mopet” used to describe these wonders in the heavens.
Unfortunately, the effort to identify the notable war associated with these wonders in the heavens is complicated by the fact that Joel does not name the nations involved in it. For that matter, not so much as a hint is given. All we know is that this war is a major warning sign that the day of the Lord — the end times — is about to begin. And it may involve nuclear detonations. Now some logical speculation as to the nations involved in this war that must happen before the end times begins…
